Unexpected fix for CPAP users with Chiari malformation

I originally bough this neck pillow for travel. I found a better use for it. I have Chiari malformation and needed to solve a problem that nobody makes a product for. Standard CPAP headgear pulls the occipital strap tight against the base of your skull. For Chiari patients that's exactly the wrong place to apply pressure. I tried every mask adjustment available and nothing helped. The Cabeau Evolution Cool fixed it — not as sold, but with a simple 10-minute modification. I cut a small hole on each side of the pillow and routed my CPAP headgear straps through them. Instead of the strap tension concentrating at the back of my skull, it now distributes into the pillow's structure. The mesh/webbing construction is what makes this work. It's rigid enough to absorb and redistribute the strap tension without collapsing, and the airflow design means no heat buildup overnight. If you just find standard CPAP headgear uncomfortable at the back of your head, same answer. What surprised me: I was surprised that this helped with the pressure from the back of my head.
